New Blog

New Website, New Blog…New Beginning!

Introduction

Hello WordPress, I’m back! Most of you reading this post probably don’t even know I left…or that I even started. February 15th 2014 was the day I posted for the first time on my blog: Me, Makeup, and More. I decided it was finally the right time to start my very own blog. I had been wanting to start one for quite some time. I had bounced around with the idea of starting a YouTube channel, but I felt like I didn’t have the time. I was going to school to study graphic design, so my plate was already full. Besides, I had never made a video before nor did I know how to edit one. So, I knew I would need to make time in my busy schedule just to teach myself the ropes. I didn’t see that happening. One thing for sure was I knew how to write.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved writing, and wasn’t too bad at it either. A certain 2nd/3rd grade teacher I had (you know who you are), had given us an assignment to write our own stories and draw our own illustrations to go with them. That’s when I knew I loved writing. I already knew I loved drawing, so being able to do both in one assignment was a treat. At the age of nine, I decided that I was going to be an author and illustrator when I grew up. Of course, while growing up you change your mind a million times about what you’re going to do with your life. So with that being said, I didn’t become Marc Brown, but at least I had bigger aspirations than becoming a fairy princess. I really do want to thank my 2nd/3rd grade teacher for inspiring me to write and be creative. When you become an adult you really start to realize who the people are that have shaped your life for the better. For me, a few of them are teachers.

Now, I’m not saying I am an expert in writing whatsoever. Besides blogging, the only writing I’ve done in the last few years is your standard college essay. I didn’t go to school for writing, so I’m sure all of you English majors and teachers are probably finding errors in my writing, but that’s okay. I write because I enjoy it and it makes me happy. That’s why I started my original blog in the first place. I was going through a tough time in my life, and I wanted to do something to take my mind off the negative emotions I was feeling. By sharing topics that I was passionate about, I found an alternative creative outlet and was able to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Due to my infrequent posting schedule, I wasn’t able to reach as many readers as I would have hoped, but I still enjoyed putting out content just as much. Unfortunately, life got busier with school, so the blog got thrown aside. Education is way more important. However, it served its purpose for the time being. I will continue to leave my old blog up and running because I did put a lot of work in it. I just will no longer be posting on it.

With the launch of my new website, I have been given the opportunity to start blogging again. Although life has new adventures in store for me in the near future, I really want to make my blog a bigger priority than it was before. When you’re a designer (or any kind of Creative), it’s important to find a creative outlet separate from your work. Not only does it give you a better work/life balance, but it keeps you driven and inspired. I’m really pumped to create new content for the new blog. I’ve acquired professional camera equipment since the last time I blogged, so now I can take higher quality photos. Also, by having access to layout plugins for WordPress, such as Visual Composer, I can make my posts more visually pleasing and organized.

Already, I have many blog posts in mind. I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you on an array of topics. Although I have a love for design, there are many things I love just the same. Expect posts to be about: design, beauty, fashion, books, comics, video games, geeky goodness, pop culture, reviews, recommendations, events in Chicago, life rants, and more! I’m not yet sure how often I will be posting. So, stay tuned!

I hope you’ll subscribe and go on this blogging journey with me!

[…] If you are still following this blog, thank you so much for reading. I’ve decided to keep this blog up, so people can still read it. But most of all, it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come in the last few months. If you are interested in reading more about my decision to start my new blog, check out my post, New Website, New Blog…New Beginning! […]

Yay – congratulations! When you moved, did you find it was hard to bring your customers / clients / followers along with you? The thought has occurred to me that I might need to rebrand someday and migrate…seems incredibly intimidating. I’m worried I would lose any progress I’d made!

Thank you! I feel like I’ve accomplished so much in a few months with the new blog. Getting traffic had been the struggle. The old blog was on WordPress.com. It was just a blog – not a design website. I only had a small following and I hadn’t blogged in years on it (when I decided to make a new blog)… so there was no need to bring my followers with me. Although, the blog is still up, so maybe I can write a post on there telling anyone who visit the blog that I have a new one. I love the customization options of my self hosted website/blog, but it was so much easier to get get traffic on WordPress.com.

I’ve found writing to be one of the best therapeutic tools around and I know I find it easier to express myself in writing than I do speaking

It really is! Some people like to write in a journal – I like to blog! Whatever helps someone get their thoughts and ideas out.

Great new beginning! I have a friend who works in graphic design and his work has always intrigued me. It’s fun to see where an artist can do to showcase a company or product. Keep up the great work!

Thank you, Joanne! 🙂 I love what I do! Graphic design has a lot of substance to it than most people think. I love product photography, so it’s great when I can incorporate it into a design… or my blog.
