Mom and Me Book Tag

Books Tags

Hello everyone! If you are a mother reading this on the original post date, Happy Mother’s Day! In honor of Mother’s Day, I thought it would be fun to write a blog post with the help of my mom. We both share a love of reading and books, so I came up with the idea to create my own tag called, the Mom and Me Book Tag. We answered 30 questions about all things bookish. You’ll notice we have very similar tastes in books. In fact, we had the same answers to a few of the questions. My mom and I had a lot of fun answering these questions. I hope after reading our answers, you will do the tag with your mom or daughter!

MOM: Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels.
ME: Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter.

#8. What was the last book you read?

#11. Do you read comics? If so, what is your favorite graphic novel or comic series?
MOM: Yes, Archie, Dark Shadows, and Lady Killer.
ME: Yup! My favorites are Archie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Giant Days, and Charmed.

#12. What do you think was a good book to movie adaptation?
MOM: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – both movies!
ME: The Harry Potter movies are the BEST! I grew up watching them all.

#13. What’s one book you wish would be made into a movie or TV show?
MOM: I would love if Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels were made into a TV series.
ME: Hmm, that’s a hard one. Maybe Lauren Myracle’s Internet Girls Series. The books are written in all texts and IMs, but I think it would make a good miniseries because it’s so real and raw. The characters are really fun too! I can see it having the same comedic tone as Mean Girls.

#14. Who’s your pick for OTP (One True Pairing) in pop culture?
ME: Piper and Leo from Charmed – hands down! Their love went through so many hurdles, but they overcame them.
MOM: At first I was going to say Emma Swan and Killian Jones (Captain Hook) from Once Upon A Time, but Candis reminded me about Piper and Leo from Charmed.

#15. What are your go-to bookstores?
MOM: Half Price Books is my favorite bookstore because you never know what you’re going to find.
ME: Half Price Books, Barnes and Nobles, and Book Outlet.

#16. Do you have any book buying tips?
MOM: Yes. Go visit Half Price Books. Also, if you’re into eBooks there’s a lot of websites you can go to get free books. For instance, Bookperk.
ME: Yes! There’s so many bargain bookstores out there (online and in-store), where you can get hardcover books for $10 or less. I love brand new books as much as the next person, but brand new books are expensive and sometimes I just want to read a book on a whim. Nowadays, I almost never pay retail price for books. If you want to learn more of my book buying secrets, check out my blog post, 3 Bookstores for Bargain Hunters.

#17. What are your favorite book related events to go to?
MOM: Bookcon, and the Half Price Books Clearance Sale.
ME: Bookcon, the Half Price Books Clearance Sale – really any book sale. My mom and I went to both for the first time last year and had a blast. In fact, I have two blog posts about our experience at Bookcon and the bookish goodies we got there: Bookcon 2016: My Experience, and Bookcon 2016 Haul.

#18. Do you have a favorite book related memory?
MOM: Going to Bookcon 2016 with Candis.
ME: Going to Scholastic Book Fairs at my grade school when I was a kid. Those were the shit!

#19. How did you get into reading?
MOM: My mom read to me when I was little. When I was in grade school, I always borrowed Nancy Drew books from the library.
ME: My mom read to me every night and took me to the library quite often.

#20. What books did you like to read as a child?
MOM: Nancy Drew, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and stories by Hans Christian Anderson.
ME: Junie B. Jones, Eloise, Madeline, and The Berenstain Bears. Apparently, I liked reading books about rambunctious little girls. Haha!

#21. What’s your favorite thing about reading?
MOM: I get to lose myself in a book. I feel like I’m there with the character(s). I immerse myself into the character and their surroundings. That’s what’s fun!
ME: Reading is a sensory experience for me. I love flipping the pages, the smell of a new book, and seeing my bookmark move as I progress through the story.

#22. What’s one book you could read again and again?
MOM: I typically don’t reread books again because I have a long list of books that need to be read.
ME: The Internet Girls Series because they are fun, quick reads! The IM and text message format is easy on the eyes and mind.

#23. What’s one book or book series you think everyone should read at least once?
MOM: Harry Potter because anyone can read it – it’s good for all ages and genders!
ME: The Harry Potter Series – how shocking, right?

#24. What would you say to today’s generation of youngsters to encourage them to read?
MOM: Get interested into reading early on. It triggers your imagination no matter how old you are.
ME: Reading doesn’t have to be boring. There’s a topic on any subject you can think of, so read what you think you will enjoy! Not only that, but there are so many different ways you can read – whether it be your choice of device or how the the words are presented, such as in a comic or instant message form.
