Hello there, fellow Geeks! I’m Candis, a Geek Lifestyle Blogger, Graphic Designer, and Photographer from Chicago. On the blog, you can find me talking about everything and anything geeky, such as books, comics, nerdy subscription services, Disney, and more! Here, it’s a safe place to geek out about all of our favorite things in pop culture.
Product photography, publication design, and print is where my creativity shines. At my day job, I’m a Visual Designer for a medical device company in the city. I design their marketing materials, as well as do their product photography, and content for their social media platforms.
When I am not designing or blogging, you can find me watching YouTube or Netflix, reading books and comics, or exploring the amazing city that I call home.
Top 10 Things That Make Me Geek out (In No Particular Order)
Disney: Disney, Disney, EVERYTHING Disney! I’m a huge DisNerd! I know way too much Disney trivia about the movies, characters, songs, and theme parks. Since I was a little girl, I’ve been collecting a ton of Disney merch. Recently, I’ve been into collecting Disney Funko Pops, Vinylmations, pins, and trading cards. I’ve only been to the Disney World Parks, but I plan on going to Disneyland someday soon. When I’m not at the parks, I’m watching Disney ride videos on YouTube. Harry Potter: Yes, I would call myself a Potterhead. Harry Potter has impacted my life in so many ways. My mom read me Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone right before the first movie came out. Since then, I have been OBSESSED with all things Harry Potter, and still waiting for my Hogwarts letter. I’m a Gryffinclaw and proud.
Charmed: My favorite TV show of all time is Charmed. I’ve been a super fan since I was 6 years old when the show first aired. One of my life’s goals is to own a Book of Shadows replica. Fun fact: my drawing of Belthazor actually appeared in a special issue of Charmed magazine.
Books: I love to read. I’m always reading more than one book at a time. My favorite genres are ChickLit, YA, Fantasy, and Biographies. I prefer hard copies of books over ebooks, but I’ve recently been working with Netgalley that sends me eBooks in exchange for book reviews, which is super exciting. Comics and Graphic Novels: I started reading comics when my mom bought me my first Archie Comics Digest at a young age. I read Archie Digests, and few other comics, like Casper and Wendy throughout middle school. Then, I didn’t really pick up comics until I was in college, which was when I went to my first comic book store. Today, I still enjoy Archie Comics, as well as many other comics series, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Giant Days, The Simpson’s, and Disney Princess comics. I love going to many of the fantastic comic stores in Chicago.
Funko Pops: Funkos are going to be the death of my bank account. I received my first Funko Pop in a Lootcrate subscription box. It was Superman from Man of Steel. Although, I was first introduced to Funko when I discovered their Wacky Wobblers. Funkos are so freaking addictive to buy. My favorites to collect are Harry Potter, and Disney. I’m even subscribed to Funko’s Disney Treasure subscribtion box, where I get exclusive Disney Funkos. My boyfriend and I love going Funko hunting – it’s one of our pastimes.
Makeup: When I was a teenager I liked to wear simple makeup looks, but it wasn’t until college that I became a makeup geek. With the help of YouTube Beauty Gurus (Xsparkage, Makeup Geek, and Michelle Phan), I self-taught myself how to do makeup, and actually look good. Haha! Through YouTube, I learned about many makeup brands, and discovered new products that I use everyday. Food: Is it possible to geek out over food? I think so. I could eat pasta every single day of my life. I blame my mother for her amazing pasta creations. As a Chicagoan, I must say deep dish pizza is also one of my faves. Toppings? Cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom. My all time favorite pizza place is Lou Malnati’s. Hands down! For the last few years, I’ve been really into sushi. My boyfriend and I are always looking for new sushi restaurants to try in Chicago. My favorite roll is spicy salmon. I’m pretty sure I have a chocolate addiction. I have a major sweet tooth for anything chocolate. It’s a serious problem.
Video Games: Now, I would not call myself a hardcore gamer, but I really enjoy playing video games. I love super chill games. My favorite video game franchises are Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario Bros, and Animal Crossing.
